Makers Premier & PITTch Fest

Makers Premier and PITTch Fest

A Celebration of the Region's Entrepreneurs and Artisans

One roof. Two events. Tons of Fun!

The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's Makers Premier and PITTch Fest Competition is May 28, 2015, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the campus Wellness Center.

What Is A Maker?

The Maker Movement is the outgrowth of Do-It-Yourself meets 21st century technology. It's hand-made, it’s performed, it’s taught, it's sewn, it’s soldered, and it’s prototyped, laser-cut, hand-finished and computer-controlled. It is a merger of educators, creators and doers infusing local economies with repurposed, technology-driven expressions of art and innovation.

Makers Premier and PITTch Fest

Through our Somerset Trust Entrepreneurship Program and a grant funded by the Department of Community and Economic Development, Pitt-Johnstown is working to foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem in rural Pennsylvania by cultivating a talent pipeline, providing academic and real world resources, and identifying markets for emerging business and technologies.

Makers Premier is a family friendly showcase for entrepreneurs, artisans, educators, engineers, and students who are creating new technologies and businesses; making beautiful, inspiring, useful products; improving local communities; and looking for a place to network, collaborate, share, sell, and compete.

PITTch Fest is a “Shark Tank” style competition for the entrepreneurs and creators who want to turn their big ideas into big business. The qualifying round of PITTch Fest will take place during Makers Premier and the final round will be the closing event for the 25th annual Showcase for Commerce in downtown Johnstown. Winners will take home more than $10,000 in investment capital and startup consulting services.

The Makers Premier and PITTch Fest is free and open to anyone interested in seeing what the best and brightest are bringing to the regional market and beyond. From robotics to repurposed, from apps to accessories, from drum circles to drones and everything in between! Makers Premier will delight curious and discerning consumers with boutique shopping, homegrown music, locally crafted beer and wine, and fun-filled experimental learning activities for children.
