Volunteer Spotlight Awarded to Mike Youchak

May 23, 2016

LIFT PRESENTS VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT AWARDTO MIKE YOUCHAK FOR ENGINEERING SUPPORT OF QUE TRAIL.

May 20, 2016 -- Lift Johnstown presented its 12th Volunteer Spotlight Award today to Mike Youchak for his extraordinary effort in support of the Quemahoning Lake Mountain Bike Trail.  Mr. Youchak, a Johnstown native whose engineering firm is based in Pittsburgh and Florida, donated dozens of hours to work through issues and help obtain the environmental permits to build the 17-mile mountain-bike look around the lake.

Lift Johnstown works to promote volunteerism and recognizes those special citizens who exemplify all that volunteering embodies by presenting the Volunteer Spotlight Award four times year.

Brad Clemenson, coordinator of Lift Johnstown, nominated Mr. Youchak for the award, saying:

“There simply no way we could have worked through the permitting issues for this project without Mike’s help.  When he offered to help, I don’t think he knew what he was signing up for, and frankly, neither did those involved with the project.  We did not expect to need water-retaining structures, but among other issues, DEP required that.  So in addition to doing detailed assessments how much additional water would flow the Quemahoning Lake before and after trail construction, Mike engineered the bioswale to address the last thing needed.  I would conservatively estimate the value of Mike’s work at $5,000, and thanks to his generous time donation, we now have an extra $5,000 to put toward building trail.”

Lift Johnstown believes that the hard work and dedication of our community volunteers are what make our community a great place to live and work.  They are helping to improve our region and the lives of our citizens every day.  The Lift Volunteer Spotlight Award is a way to recognize those going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of people and on projects that are redefining Johnstown as a vibrant small city and region.  Lift honors volunteers on a quarterly basis.  New nominations may be submitted starting next week.
