JOHNSTOWN, PA – On Wednesday, December 21st, LIFT Johnstown honored its 13th Volunteer Spotlight Award recipients, Ted and Judy Risch, at a surprise presentation during the North Star Elementary School Assembly.
Lift Johnstown is happy to promote recognition of those special citizens who exemplify all that volunteering embodies. The Risch’s were selected by a committee that reviews and votes on nominations received by LIFT and submitted by members of the community. The nomination for Ted and Judy Risch reads as follows:
“Ted and Judy Risch first served at Camp PARC as teenagers volunteering for summer programs. Now, after over 50 years of service, they are still volunteering as directors of the Camp since 1980. They have devoted their life to serve the special needs of the residents of this area.” As per information on their website, “Camp PARC is a privately funded, nonprofit organization that creates recreational and social opportunities for children and adults with mental and developmental disabilities through its residential summer camp, based in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Camp PARC provides a unique recreational camp by integrating individuals with special needs and youth counselors to experience friendship, understanding and acceptance and allow respite for families and caregivers. This unique environment pairs volunteer high school and college students with mentally challenged individuals, offering campers and staff the true feeling of acceptance into society. More than 500 volunteers donate their time to Camp PARC each year helping to fulfill our mission of enriching the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities related to autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury, Down, Tourette and other syndromes as well as hearing or vision impairment and medical conditions such as diabetes or epilepsy.”
Brad Clemenson, Lift Johnstown Coordinator, presented the award to the Risch’s for their years of outstanding service to the special needs residents of this area.
